OUR HISTORY
Delta Advantage Center was conceived, born and launched in January 2020 out of love and respect for the people of the Mississippi Delta. The founders of the organization were both born, raised and educated in the Mississippi Delta and both of them wanted to give back to the communities that positively impacted their ability to become contributors despite the struggles that they faced.
As an organization, the first major obstacle that was addressed was the food insecurity. Our food distribution program began in April 2020 and continued throughout the year. These distributions were done throughout the year and included nine months of the Covid 19 Pandemic. Food Distributions remain one of the ways that the organization continues to meet the needs of the community.
The organization requested and was granted 501-C designation in July 2020. We acquired the old Allen Canning Facility in Morehead, Mississippi. The building had been vacant for more than a decade and the building had greatly deteriorated. Vandals tore out all the copper wiring, destroyed walls, and fixtures, there were infestations and the exterior grounds were badly overgrown. There was major damage to the roof of the building causing major internal damages as well.
We continue to work to renovate the property. These pictures reflect some of work that we’ve done thus far and our vision for the work that we plan to do.
